Injury prevention starts with an initial assessment. Our physiotherapists help all ages, working with them to check for weaknesses in posture, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.
To recover from or prevent an injury, it’s so important to carry out the correct exercises in an accurate way. Having poor form can actually make the injury worse, so we always advise people to come in to see our physiotherapists, who will design a bespoke plan dependent on your needs and guide you on correct form.
At your initial assessment, we will discuss the issue and any relevant medical history. We will fully examine the problem area, give you a full diagnosis and talk you through your plan.
Over the last 20 years, a wealth of research has been focused on ACL injury prevention. Prevention programmes have been shown to decrease the incidence of catastrophic knee injuries, as well as improve athletic performance.
Research has demonstrated that, with a specific 6-week training programme, athletes can increase jump height, decrease harmful landing forces at the knee, improve strength, control and balance, all of which correct biomechanics associated with injuries such as an ACL tear. A series of tests are performed to provide a score of the likelihood of lower limb injury, then a specific 6-week exercise programme is prescribed accordingly. The test is then repeated after 6 weeks to assess the percentage improvement of risk factors.
