Why Pilates?

Why Pilates?

The medical world has now realised the benefits of Pilates for injury prevention and rehabilitation. 80% of adults will experience back pain at some stage in their life. When left unmanaged, a high proportion of people will continue to experience further episodes of back pain in future years. One key to preventing recurrences is to rehabilitate and re-train the deep abdominal, pelvic and spinal stability muscles to dynamically support the spine throughout movement.

Pilates provides a unique method of restoring strength, flexibility and function. Pilates is used also as a training regime for sports people and athletes to give them core body strength and flexibility, so enhancing their performance and helping to prevent injury.

Some benefits from regular Pilates are:

  • Improves bone density
  • Proven to reduce back pain
  • Strengthens your core stability
  • Prevents injury
  • Increases flexibility
  • Improves posture
  • Can be modified to suit any level
  • Help with relaxation and stress management

When considering starting Pilates it’s best to start with a 1:1 session with your Physiotherapist to make sure you really get a grasp of the fundamental basics in order to safely get the most out of a class.
